Getting Excited About Christmas

I admit it. I’ve been thinking about Christmas since October. The reasons why are probably a bit complicated, but the main one is this: I love colourful, sparkly, whimsical things and go giddy for shiny lights.

santaI spent my younger years in Chicago, and it was tradition for my family to put up a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. I suppose Chicagoans do Christmas pretty well since winter is so cold and snowy. People need the lights, ringing bells, and reindeer to bring cheer during that time.

I know some are shaking their heads at me for being so happy over Christmas lights; I’m aware of the flip side. Many find this time of year miserable so, yes, I know everything is not all lights and cheer – and yet, I still like to take pleasure in beautiful, happy things if I can.

I planned to announce a surprise today, but I have it on good authority that Christmas stuff is better if you reveal it closer to Christmas. Therefore I am postponing the announcement for another week. I keep adding to it anyway, so a delay may be good. Watch this space!

  1. I am not big on Xmas overall… it is a bit too much these days, and sadly not much about the true meaning of the event which is about being with those you love (unless you have religious beliefs for celebrations)…
HOWEVER… like you Shauna, I do love the sparkles and lights which is a lovely respite from, for me at least, can be a rather depressing time of year… I don’t know why it makes me feel so low tbh, other than when I was 8 years old my Grandad collapsed on Boxing Day and subsequently passed away… We were very close… I think that subconsciously haunts me and throws a dark cloak over proceedings even now, when really I should know better! lol
So I say, BRING OUT THE SPARKLES & LIGHTS!!! WE WANT MORE!!!

    1. Sorry to hear about your Grandad, Di. I have loved ones I miss this time of year too, but I know they would want me to have some fun and not be sad. I would like to make some more happy memories, and I agree with you… let’s bring out the sparkles and lights!

  2. A surprise would be great Shauna, I look forward to hearing about that next week. Thanks for thinking of things for a great SL Christmas.
